"Hold On"

Evan had a bad day today. He asked me several times for a drink this morning when I was on the phone. I had to keep telling him "hold on a minute". He whined and complained until I filled his request. Later in the afternoon we visited a children's museum. Evan wanted to show his brother something but Skylar kept telling him to "hold on", until he was finished with what he was doing. At dinner, Evan asked Skylar to look at something else, but was put off again by Skylar telling him to "hold on". The last straw came when we were at the Library tonight. My hands were full of books when Evan asked me for a piece of gum that I had promised him when we arrived. I told him to "hold on" until I could put the books down. He let out a huge sigh and slumped to the floor. He put his hands in the air and formed quote marks with his fingers and said, "I am tired of the 'hold ons'!"
