We shared in communion today at church. Evan asked if he could join us this time. I said yes, as long as he understands what the elements represent. He picked up the cracker and the juice and balanced them so well as he waited for instructions from his Daddy. I leaned over and whispered in his ear about the bread, that it is a symbol of Jesus' body that was beaten and broken for us, that He took our punishment on himself. And the juice is a symbol of Jesus' blood that He willingly spilled to cover our sins, to forgive us so that we can go to heaven to be with Jesus. Evan repeated back to me the meaning of the bread and juice and then prayed with me before taking the elements. He accepted Christ into his life two years ago and today, his first communion is another milestone in his walk with Jesus.
